Congressional Pay Cut

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) introduced a bill last week to cut pay for members of Congress by $8,700 a year — or five percent — and freeze their automatic cost-of-living increase.
I ran across the above headlines and caught the tail-end of an interview with this congresswoman on Fox New this morning and I must admit that I am quite impressed. Whether it's a gimmick to get re-elected or a serious concern for over our dying economy all I can say "you go girl." Even though I consider my politics to be more to the right than left this woman needs to be taken serious. Kirkpatrick is quoted as saying,
“Families across the country are getting by on lower wages…so why shouldn’t senators and representatives have to feel the same pinch?” Kirkpatrick said.
Can you actually believe that someone in Washington has the good sense to realize you can spend your way out of debt. I know that 5% is a token amount when compared to the billions being spent on pet pork projects, but it is a start. Cut a few buck here and there and the next thing you know we might see some end to the economic nightmare we are facing. I gave at the office - my job and income.
In the last few weeks the City of Phoenix has threatened everyone with losing police and firemen if we don't approve an increase on food tax and sales tax in general. Maybe we could take some of those firemen driving those million dollar firetrucks on heart attack calls to take a 5% pay cut. Better yet, why don't we get some of those union leaders to take a pay cut. Isn't it funny how everyone else except those in charge have to do the giving.
Like I said, "you go girl," Rep. Kirkpatrick has my support even though I support a different party.
